Typ II A
U 1 bis U 6 = 6 U-boats

In contrast to Type I A that was designed for high seas operations several types of coastal submarines ( Type II A to Type II D) were developed, based on the Types UB II and UF of the Imperial German Navy and were called “dugouts”. The earliest forerunner of this submarine type was the Finnish submarine Vessikko commissioned in 1933. In total some 50 units of Type II ( A to D) were commissioned and employed in action England, off Norway, in the Baltic Sea and in the Black Sea.
