Type 240
As the Federal German Navy was built up many vessels for practical training were required, including U-boats. As a first measure two Type XXIII U-boats of the Kriegsmarine, which were sunk by their crews in 1945, were raised and repaired and commissioned in 1957 for training purposes.
U 2365 of the Kriegsmarine became U Hai of the Federal German Navy and U 2367 became U Hecht. U Hai was lost in an accident in the North Sea on 14 September 1966 with 19 dead and only one survivor and was scrapped 1968 after it was raised to investigate the accident. U Hecht was de-commissioned in 1968 and scrapped afterwards.
