Type 241
Besides the the the two Type XXIII U-boats of the Kriegsmarine one “Big Electro Boat” Type XXI was commisioned into the Federal German Navy. The former U 2540 was used as a trial and training boat under the name of Wilhelm Bauer after it had been raised in 1957 and has been repaired afterwars. From 1970 on it had a civilian complement. It was de-commissioned in 1983 and and converted into a museum ship at the German Maritime Museum at Bremerhaven in 1984, where it had over 3 million visitors since then.
