Type 205 A
Besides the reconstruction of U 1 and U 2 from Type 201 to Type 205A between 1964 and 1966, four other (U 9, U 10, U 11 and U 12) boats of Type 205 were reconstructed to Type 205A. The most significant improvements were increased engine power, a redesigned control room and a change to the rudder arrangement.
Between 1991 and 1993 5 units of Type 205A were de-commissioned (U 1, U 2, U 9, U 10 and U 11) and with U 12 which served as a trial boat the last unit of Types 205 / 205A was decommissioned in 2005. U 11 and U 12 were reconstructed to trial and research boats lastly.
